Background

Chris's father taught him to play chess at the age of nine and he has been playing ever since. His first opportunity to join a chess club was at South Miami Middle School. The coach at the time told him he had the potential of becoming a strong chess player.  The coach invited him to play in a tournament between South Miami Middle and West Miami Middle.  Chris played in the tournament and tied for first place, propelling him to a lifelong devotion to the game.  In high school, he started a chess club.  Subsequently, he found a local chess club, became a member and eventually the owner asked him to take over the club. The owner also suggested that he start his own chess club.  

Chris started his own chess club at a local Pizza Hut.  The members have been meeting at the Kendall Branch Library for several years.  The library environment offers the best location, since it is quiet and we have our own meeting room.  This game helps Chris to pass along a tool that children will use for the rest of their life!

Objective

It is Chris' professional goal to make chess a part of the Miami-Dade County Public School (MDCPS) curriculum so that all children may enjoy the numerous benefits of chess.

We meet every Saturday from 3-5pm, except when we conduct a chess tournament.
