Background
My father taught me to play chess at the age of nine and I have been playing ever since. My first opportunity to join a chess club was at South Miami Middle School. The coach at the time told me I had the potential of becoming a strong chess player. He invited me to play in a tournament between South Miami Middle and West Miami Middle. I played in the tournament and I tied for first place, propelling me to my lifelong devotion to the game. In high school, I started a chess club. Subsequently, I found out about a local chess club, became a member and eventually the owner asked me to take over the club. He also suggested I start my own chess club.
I started my chess club at a local Pizza Hut. We now have been meeting at the Kendall Branch Library for several years. The library environment offers the best location, since it is quiet and we have our own meeting room. This game helps me pass along a tool that children will use for the rest of their life!
Objective
It is my professional goal to make chess a part of the Miami-Dade County Public School (MDCPS) curriculum so that all children may enjoy the numerous benefits of chess.
